Water Utility GIS Updates
Severn Trent Water
Apr 2016 – Jan 2017
The introduction of competition for non-household customers within the UK water industry and the subsequent separation of the retail and wholesale business required that Severn Trent Water handle data regarding eligible non-household customers differently. Changes to many enterprise systems were required to accommodate new workflows, including GIS updates for current and legacy solutions.
GIS4BUSINESS prepared detailed designs for the various GIS updates required, including database schema changes and updates to custom code and batch processes. A key requirement was to limit the impact of the GIS updates on legacy systems to avoid unnecessary risk and development cost.
A part of the project GIS4BUSINESS also assisted with:
- Updating FME based batch processes and SQL scripts that transfer GIS data between current and legacy databases;
- Technical input into the overall implementation planning and change management;
- Support during system integration and user acceptance testing;
- Implementing the GIS updates in non-live and live systems
The various GIS updates were successfully implemented out-of-hours, along with changes to other enterprise systems within the tight deadlines required.
“STW have employed a variety of services from GIS4BUSINESS that have involved a range of technologies and complexity with significant collaboration across our business. The quality of outputs and professionalism are excellent and we would not hesitate to engage GIS4BUSINESS for future projects.”
